So far Die Young: Prologue is a mixed bag for me. Very often the levels are designed to support your movement flow, which is very cool to see. Many objects, like containers or boxes, can be climbed or vaulted over which works fluently most of the time. Moving through the gameworld feels quite fluent, especially when sprinting. Performance was also quite solid (when it did not crash). Not mindblowing, but very solid due to UE4. After climbing a few boxes near a window at the backside, I was quite disappointed that I could not smash the window with a stone or one of my weapons. Blocking seems to do nothing at all in terms of damage prevention and overall it feels very messy and like you're never fully in control.Īt one point I was locked out of a control room and did not have a key to open the door. So far I am not a huge fan of melee combat. Also, many times there are no sounds, like hitting an object with a crowbar. Instead, the soundwaves should propagate through corridors and be heard from the front, if at all. In one situation I could hear sounds through a solid concrete wall to my left. Maybe there is a proper tactic here - if so it was never properly explained and I always felt like I cheesed my way through the entire thing. I won't say more due to potential spoilers. There is a bossfight in this demo which I did not enjoy at all. The game crashed 4 or 5 times in total over the rather short playtime of 2 hours. My first impressions of Die Young: Prologue are not very positive. I normally don't say this when it comes to early access games but I would definitely recommend Die Young: Prologue to anyone who is looking for a different type of exploration game RECOMMENDED :) However, on the whole, Die Young: Prologue is a great early access indie game with a lot to offer now and so much potential for the future, I just hope IndieGala will continue to perfect their already strong enough game. And as I've always said, it could be my perfectionism or mild OCD, but certain texts should have their grammar checked and some of the UI could do with some fixing Personally, the parkour segments are a little bit too linear at the moment but can be fixed with later updates. Some of the enemies can be a bit spongy when trying to kill and some of the animations both from NPCs, enemies and the player look a bit cheap and unfinished and I'm hoping that IndieGala fixes and improves some of these animations However, Die Young: Prologue is not perfect and has it's fair share of problems. The voice acting is fairly well done and the graphics are really pretty even though there is the odd graphical glitch, weird texture and misplaced NPC The story is interesting and somewhat unique, even though it reminds me of Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5, even though I prefer Die Young to those two poor excuses of a game. This, in my opinion and out of all the early access games I've played thus far, is definitely one of the most polished, although sometimes buggy and unpolished in certain areas, well put together early access games in my opinion and I can't wait for more updates and more stories to be told!įor an early access game, I'm very susprised that Die Young: Prologue has a nice level of exploration with some great world design and reminds me of my hometown hopefully with later patches, it will gain more traction I'm actually surprised and very displeased that this game isn't as popular as it deserves to be. But as you try and figure it out, you'll appreciate the beauty of the island and more along with other tasks you'll end up doing as wellĭie Young: Prologue, in my opinion, is a really great game that only can get better from here on out if the developers listen to the feedback and improve on stuff! This game has a couple of surprises and a few puzzles that aren't beginner friendly. What I think I personally don't like is the climbing system is a bit finicky which I hope they'll fix in future updates You run a lot in this game and when you do, you can use your speed as an advantage to quickly hop over objects or even jump from one cliff to another. I love the quick parkour system, if sometimes flawed at the moment. DISCLAIMER: This is a full review, and NOT a first impressions reviewĭie Young: Prologue is a game developed and published by IndieGala and is a free prologue to the full Die Young game which explains what happens before you play the main protagonist in Die Young
